Apprenticeships with a cause - work for MIB

Apprenticeships with a cause - work for MIB Here's an apprenticeship with a difference.

The Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB for short) is a not-for-profit body based in Milton Keynes. Funded by the insurance sector, the MIB helps to reduce the levels and impact of uninsured and untraced driving in the UK.

It also compensates victims of uninsured and untraced drivers and delivers analytical services on behalf of its members and the wider risk profession.

It's now got 12 apprenticeships up for grabs, working as a Claims Handler. You could be managing your own portfolio of property damage motor claims, including the assessment, valuing and settlement of the claim. You will also be trained in how to settle a claim promptly and fairly.

If you like the idea of doing a socially valuable job, this is ideal.

Here are the skills you should have:

  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Organised multitasker
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Good IT skills - able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and experience with databases
Do you have these personal qualities?

  • Team-orientated
  • Enthusiastic
  • Keen to develop a career in insurance
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to seek help when needed
  • Personable and presentable
  • Reliable
  • Professional
You will need to hold at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) grade A*-C or 4-9, including English and Maths.

You should ideally also have two A levels or equivalent qualification.

Successful applicants will be full-time employees upon completion of this apprenticeship. There would then be the opportunity to start a Level 3 insurance apprenticeship to develop to a more senior claims role dealing with personal injury claims.

The salary for this apprenticeship is £14,000 per year.
