Job Summary:

Markel International's Accounting and Finance department is led by Jeremy Noble, Finance Director. The department supports the eight divisions and offices across the UK, Europe, Canada, Latin America and Asia Pacific.

The role of finance at Markel International is varied and we are responsible for recording financial transactions, providing financial information to the Markel Corporation, ensuring compliance of legal and regulatory reporting obligations, and providing accurate financial performance information to key decision makers.

                                                                                                               

Duties and accountabilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Liaise with internal and external clients to resolve issues. The main customers are the accounts payable department, underwriting and technical accounting divisions and our Group Treasury function based in Richmond Virginia
  • Perform bank reconciliations for the company’s various currency bank accounts.
  • Process and enter payment/receipt information onto the general ledger and cashbook.
  • Assist with the development of new processes.
  • Accurately input and scanning of information into the accounts payable system and ensuring all expenditure is approved under the company's authorisation procedures.
  • Respond to supplier and employee queries in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Interrogate and analyse expense data
  • Provide support for monthly expense close processes

The successful candidate will have:

  • Intermediate level user of Excel and Word
  • Good communication skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to challenging deadlines.
