Discover Risk school events launch with great success
The CII has launched its Discover
Risk outreach programme for schools. Aimed at year 12 students, the
programme uses a board game, based on the CII's Discover Risk website,
to encourage young people to consider career options within the
insurance sector.
The programme was launched at Luton Sixth Form College with over 50
students taking part. The board game, which lasts around 90 minutes,
gets students thinking about how the risk and insurance sector touches
diverse areas of life. Students play in teams and work through how to
manage the risks associated with a variety of real-life scenarios that
range from a chocolate company receiving a badly damaged product
shipment to a singing super star's niece being abducted.
This is the first time that the CII has produced an interactive game
for schools, in partnership with Magnified Learning, and the feedback from teachers, students and employers has
been extremely positive.
Sufian Sadiq, business management teacher at Luton Sixth Form
College, stated, "This is an excellent initiative which I am sure will
do extremely well in promoting risk related careers. The employer
engagement really added value to the workshops. I personally was very
impressed by the quality of material and found the workshop to be active
and engaging for students."
Caspar Bartington, Relationship Manager - Education at the CII,
stated, "The game is structured to help students build essential skills
including team work, negotiation and communication. A number of
employers have been involved in the game and this has helped them to
build their profile and identify future talent."
The programme will be rolled out to schools throughout the country over the coming academic year.
Students can also enter a competition linked to the programme and can win a work placement in the sector.
