Japan, one month on - how our profession continues to help


The risk profession is an international one, and sector companies have been working particularly hard to support those in Japan at present.

Before Thursday's earthquake, Lloyd's of London insurer Amlin reported that claims relating to last month's earthquake and tsunami could reach £150m. That money will be spent helping to rebuild devastated communities and, as much as possible, restore towns and cities to their pre-disaster state.

Reinsurers Munich Re and Swiss Re will between them plough £2bn into supporting their Japanese commercial clients, who will claim on their policies. 

Each year there are scores of events where sector companies support those who have suffered large-scale losses - from hurricanes in the Caribbean to floods and forest fires in Australia.
