Risk specialist runs his 11th London Marathon

On Sunday 17 April, over 36,000 runners took to the streets of the UK capital to take part in the 30th London Marathon.  One of them was Ray Johnson, owner of Independent Insurance Services.

Ray completed his 11th London Marathon in a shade over 4 hours and 25 minutes, a little way off his personal best of 3 hours and 23 minutes back in 2002.  Although it wasn't his best time, Ray did manage to avoid the stiff legs and runners' wall that have caused him problems in the past!

More importantly, Ray's efforts on Sunday raised £2,700 for the Kent Association for the Blind, and took him beyond £40,000 raised over the past 11 years.

Some travel policies include marathon insurance in case of accident or injury.  Stand-alone sports injury cover is offered by a handful of companies. This usually provides a cash lump sum if you break a bone.  It can also give money back from the cost of physiotherapy. The cost of a one-hour session with a physiotherapist can range from £40 up to £100.

Despite the risks, and although the day was tiring and hotter than his training conditions, Ray praised the crowds who were "ever fantastic" and wasted no time in signing up for his 12th marathon.
