UEFA Champions League Final - Battle of the Brands




This weekend sees Manchester United and Barcelona go head to head in the 2011 UEFA Champions League final. It's also a battle of two huge brands, as Aon line up against Unicef.

Last season, insurance broker Aon secured a lucrative a £80m-a-year contract with the Red Devils, following the end of the previous sponsorship deal with AIG (now Chartis) that started in 2006.    After one year's sponsorship of Manchester United, the AIG brand featured in the top 50 of most recognised brands.

On 1 June 2010 Aon kicked off their official first day of sponsorship by having 150 representatives from their Manchester office and their families participating in a Penalty Kick Challenge.  Proceeds of this event went to The Christie Charity, a children's cancer treatment facility previously supported by Aon employees as well as Manchester United.   Aon have continued to support Manchester United's charity work by supporting their 'United for UNICEF' campaign.   The projects supported have included working with children across the globe who have been affected by events such as tsunamis and those living in poverty, often with no access to education and at risk from exploitation.

Aon don't just sponsor one of the world's most famous football teams - they have a wide range of risk activities and just last month became the insurer for the McLaren Formula 1 team, its drivers and McLaren Automotive, which is responsible for the production of the MP4-12C supercar.

This weekend, however, it's all about the football.  May the best team win.
