Apprenticeship opportunity with Asta!!

Following the success of the Apprenticeship Scheme Asta introduced last year, we are again looking for two ‘A’ level students who will be employed for a fixed period of 18 months.  The Apprentices will gain valuable exposure to the activities of a Lloyd’s Managing Agent where  they will spend up to 6 month placements within 3 or more of the the following business functions which will include providing the teams with administrative support:

  • Underwriting Management
  • Business Development
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Finance
  • Operations

They may also provide ad hoc administrative support to other teams at peak times.

The Apprentices will receive on the job training to achieve the Level 3 General Insurance Practitioner Standard (CII Certificate in Insurance).

Underwriting Management

Assist Independent Peer Review and Underwriting Performance teams, assist with underwriting reporting obligations, and monitoring of syndicates’ underwriting activities. There will also be the opportunity to assist the reinsurance, underwriting compliance, exposure management and Delegated Underwriting teams.

Business Development

Assist with project management activities where deemed appropriate. This will include maintenance of project plans and/or documenting process enhancements on new business pipeline and migration projects. There will also be opportunities to help with competitor analysis and market developments research and provide assistance with committee / board reporting papers.

Risk and Compliance

Assist with core risk management and regulatory compliance activities. This will include key risk indicator and risk appetite monitoring, risk event reporting and analysis, risk and control reviews, compliance monitoring and assisting with specific regulatory projects.  The placement will also involve assisting with preparing Board packs and collating data for regulatory returns.


Provide assistance with the purchase ledger and cash book, as well as general bookkeeping and reconciliation work within Corporate Finance and Syndicate Finance.

Key Personal Skills

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Flexible approach and happy to adapt workload to changing priorities
  • Positive and mature outlook with a desire to learn.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to produce consistently accurate work whilst working to tight deadlines
  • Good organisation skills with the ability to use initiative but know when to refer work upwards
  • Good team player with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

Key technical skills

  • 3 A-levels, 2 of which at grade B or above and have both Maths and English GCSE at grade B or above (or equivalent)
  • Can demonstrate initiative and ambition through extra-curricular achievements or work experience
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, notably Excel, with a natural ability to pick up new systems quickly.
