Belfast insurer creates 35 jobs

A Boston-based insurer, Liberty IT, which also operates in Belfast, is to add 35 new staff to its head count

The roles will see the firm's entire head count increase to over 320, meaning positive news for both the company and local residents looking for senior or entry-level jobs in insurance.

According to Insider Ireland, the roles will help support the firm's overseas operations, helping to boost their already impressive international success.

Reports have suggested that the Department for Employment and Learning will help train the new recruits, making use of its 'Assured Skills' programme.

"The quality and dedication of the region's workforce is superb, which has helped Liberty IT sustain strong employment growth as it supports Liberty Mutual's strategic technology initiatives," said Edmund F Kelly, Liberty IT's chief executive and group chairman.

His colleague, William Hamilton, who is the company's managing director, added: "We have been creating jobs in Belfast since our inception in 1997, made possible in part because of the strong and essential support of partners.

"[These include] the Department of Education and Learning. We thank them for their commitment," he added in the Belfast Telegraph.

The insurer has been ranked within the Top 50 UK companies to work for, as cited by the Great Places to Work Institute. As the fifth-largest insurer within the USA (where its headquarters are based) it employs over 45,000 workers throughout the world, boasting over 900 global offices.
