Extreme sportsman Leo Houlding on risk

Earlier this year we delivered a Discover Risk session to students at Lambeth College.  This session was supported by then CII president Chris Hanks, General Manager - Allianz Commercial and Leo Houlding, one of Britain's top climbers and amongst the best in the world.

Leo can be seen in the new Berghaus Live for Adventure TV Advert.  The advert promotes the outdoor clothing and equipment brand by screening Leo's Para-Alpinism (climbing up then flying down).

Leo is an experienced base jumper and as you might imagine, this sort of job carries all kinds of risks.  Who, you might ask, would insure such a career choice? Extreme sports insurance is hard to come by but it does exist.  Sports Cover Direct for example, offers two types of cover: sports accident insurance and sports travel insurance.  The first is designed for extreme sports at home and the second for extreme sports abroad.  Without this sort of cover, people like Leo wouldn't be able to do their job.

During our Discover Risk session at Lambeth College Leo explained just how important it is to analyse the risks he takes in order to be successful at what he does.  You can take a look at what he had to say here.
