2012 - the centenary of a heroic journey

2012 - the centenary of a heroic journey

2012 marks the centenary of polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott's epic final journey.  The objective of his Terra Nova expedition was the reach the South Pole and to secure, for the British Empire, the honour of this achievement.

Two leading insurers are aiding the celebration of this landmark journey, which has produced important and relevant information for scientists that are researching the Antarctica today.

International specialist insurer Catlin is the primary sponsor of the Scott Antarctic Exhibition at the Natural History Museum.  The exhibition will look at everyday life in the base-camp hut, examine the saga of human endurance and reveal the scientific achievements of the expedition.

Stephen Catlin, chief executive of Catlin Group Limited, said, "We at Catlin are proud to sponsor this important exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London.  Whilst Scott and his brave companions died a century ago, there is still a lot we can learn from their exploration of Antarctica."

Catlin's sponsorship also includes support of climate change research carried out in the Antarctic with the backing of the Natural History Museum's Department of Zoology.  Catlin was also the title sponsor of the Catlin Arctic Survey, a three year scientific project that finished in 2011.

The second insurer to support the milestone is Towergate, Europe's largest independently owned insurance intermediary.   Towergate is a sponsor of the very nearly completed British Services Antarctic Expedition 2012. The teams aim is to continue Scott's legacy and to conduct scientific exploration in remote areas of the Antarctic Peninsula, seeking to further the bounds of human exploration and knowledge.  You can follow the team here.
